# The Post-Apocalyptic table
# Written by Josh Johnston and Alex Schroeder

;TOP
1,These are the lands of the post-apocalypse. You’ll find a short description of all the mutations at the end.
# TODO: add global threats and powers to the introduction.

;forest
1,The [colour] trees of the *[name for forest]* surround you and grow towards the sun in tight spirals. [forest people]
1,The *[name for forest]* is quiet and peaceful except for the sound of mutated animals ripping each other apart.
1,Strange looking birds call out high above the [colour] trees of the *[name for forest]*.
1,An occasional [colour] eye stalk pokes through the mounds of leaves beneath the towering trees of the *[name for forest]*.
1,Giant, large-trunked [colour] trees dominate the *[name for forest]*. They've broken through the road here and there creating insurmountable obstacles that require extra travel time.
1,Trees that resemble Old Earth mushrooms climb to heights of 50 to 70 meters in the *[name for forest]*. The [colour] spores from the trees litter the road.
1,Irradiated [colour] trees and [colour] meadows form an eye pleasing patchwork of colour in the *[name for forest]*.
1,A recent fire has left this part of the *[name for forest]* a hellish landscape of brittle trunks and ashen ground.
1,Twisted, gnarled tree roots have made this region of the *[name for forest]* famous for tripping up and slowing down uwary travelers.
1,Deep in the heart of the *[name for forest]*, the long tree branches overhead rub together creating a haunting melody.

;desert
1,A lizard as large as an Old Earth automobile basks in the unrelenting sun of the *[name for desert]*.<p>[desert people]<p>[desert point of interest]
1,The *[name for desert]* sun bakes you to the point of blacking out.<p>[desert people]<p>[desert point of interest]
1,Tall [colour] cacti slowly creep along the *[name for desert]* floor in search of food.<p>[desert people]<p>[desert point of interest]
1,It's easy to get lost in the *[name for desert]*. The hard-packed sand stretches out for kilometers in every direction. Bones of previous travellers have been pushed to the side of the road.<p>[desert people]<p>[desert point of interest]
1,You were warned that the *[name for desert]* is a wasteland.<p>[desert point of interest]
1,The *[name for desert]* has turned into a vast ancient lake bed of salt.<p>[desert point of interest]
1,High clouds crawl slowly by providing little relief in the *[name for desert]*.<p>[desert point of interest]
1,Time seems to stand still in the *[name for desert]* and the mind wanders with boredom.<p>[desert point of interest]
1,The *[name for desert]* is quiet and bleak today as always.<p>[desert point of interest]
1,The *[name for desert]* flowers are in full bloom and there are thousands of [colour] mutated insects flying here and there collecting pollen.<p>[desert point of interest]

;mountain
1,The fresh mountain air up in the *[name for mountain]* is a nice change from the smell of burning mutants and androids.<p>[point of interest in the mountains]
1,You are surrounded by the steep peaks of the *[name for mountain]* in all directions. Any further travel will be difficult.
1,The air of the *[name for mountain]* is cold and thin. It’s getting harder and harder to catch your breath.<p>[mountain people]
1,The slopes up the the *[name for mountain]* are steep and the trails are slippery with ice and slush. It’s impossible to tell if you’re walking on bones or thin ice.
1,Climbing, climbing, climbing. It's all that's left to do up here in the *[name for mountain]*.
1,The high canyon walls feel like they're closing in on you in the *[name for mountain]*. The trail winds ahead like a snake.
1,The atmosphere in the *[name for mountain]* feels slightly less radioactive at 3,000m. The clouds look mesmerisingly beautiful.
1,The views in the *[name for mountain]* are spectacular, and the saw-toothed peaks dominate the horizon.
1,Rising peaks in the *[name for mountain]* resemble man-made pyramids of lava rock.
1,Visibility in the *[name for mountain]* is extremely limited as the snow begins to fall at an accelerated pace.

;jungle
1,[jungle description] [jungle encounter]

;jungle description
1,The extreme humidity of the *[name for jungle]* makes breathing difficult, but has the added benefit of disabling most robots.
1,The *[name for jungle]* seems to be extra hostile today. Swaying [colour] vines grab at your arms and legs.
1,The *[name for jungle]* is thick with [colour] vegetation and surprisingly unyielding.
1,The rain is unceasing as you stumble your way through the *[name for jungle]*. The trail is slowly being eroded away.
1,The [colour] under and overgrowth are heavy tangled in the *[name for jungle]*.
1,The *[name for jungle]* is alive with animal grunts and growls which are nearly deafening and definitely terrifying.
1,There are sudden cliffs and precarious paths hiddden by choking, thorny vines in the *[name for jungle]*.
1,The triple canopies in the *[name for jungle]* have trapped almost all of the heat and humidity close to the ground making it feel like a madman's greenhouse.
1,The *[name for jungle]* seems to be alive and waiting for you to let down your guard.
1,[capitalize colour] dew drips unceasingly from all species of foliage in the *[name for jungle]*.

;swamp
1,The foul smelling quicksand of the *[name for swamp]* pulls at your feet as you trudge along.
1,The tidal quicksand of the *[name for swamp]* ebbs and flows, and you feel yourself sinking in deeper and deeper.
1,Mutated [colour] frogs crunch beneath your feet as you slog through the *[name for swamp]*. You suspect there are even bigger amphibians under the surface. [swamp people]
1,The *[name for swamp]* reeks of dead bodies and ruin. [River|Water|Swamp] [duckers|rhinos|hulks] [bay|call|cronk|cry|honk|trumpet] in the distance. [swamp people]
1,The sulfurous smell of the *[name for swamp]* has you gagging and retching. [swamp people]
1,The *[name for swamp]* is waterlogged and hard to navigate on foot. You're going to need a boat here.<p>[point of interest in the swamp]
1,Scummy, brackish water and mangrove trees dominate this area of the *[name for swamp]*.
1,The algae-laden mud in the *[name for swamp]* has covered you from head to foot.
1,The *[name for swamp]* is vast and fetid, and defies your sense of direction.
1,The rumours are that the *[name for swamp]* has swallowed up unwary travelers with no trace.

;grass
1,The *[name for grass]* hums with a radioactive intensity. [grass people]
1,There seems to be no end to the *[name for grass]*. [grass people]
1,The *[name for grass]* stretches in all directions. Large buzzing [colour] insects hover menacingly.
1,One meter tall [colour] crickets chew the rainbow grass contentedly. This is the *[name for grass]*.
1,Lush [with colour] and [and colour] grasses flow with the wind in the *[name for grass]*.
1,The wide open grasses of the *[name for grass]* undulate gently in the constant breeze.
1,The *[name for grass]* was once a dense forest ages ago, but all that's left of the forest are fallen trunks amid the unending grasses.
1,The [colour] grasses of the *[name for grass]* seem unnaturally still and flat.
1,The *[name for grass]* seems healthier than the surrounding areas. The [colour] grasses teem with insect life.
1,The ground in the *[name for grass]* is much rockier and drier here.

;ruin
1,<p>Piles of ash are all that remain where a small town once stood. Partial skeletons are scattered indiscriminately.
1,<p>Multiple craters litter the landscape. It’s impossible to tell what once stood here.
1,<p>A partially standing library smoulders in the distance. The bookshelves poke through the crumbled masonry like old bones.
1,<p>A wreck of a gas station lies in several burning piles. The underground tanks have been long siphoned dry.
1,<p>What was an airport once stood here. Craters both large and small have shattered the runway. The control tower is still intact although leaning heavily to one side.
1,<p>Large parts of planes litter the ground. Animal hides hang over the entrances on the remaining fuselages of the Old Earth machines. A humanoid hangs from the control tower as a warning.
1,<p>The scorch marks on the battered concrete slab are all that remain of this starport.
1,<p>A sign on the corner of a burned out brick building points to a bomb shelter up ahead. You hope you can reach it before the radioactive rains start again.
1,<p>The ruins of a sprawling hospital complex cover several acres. There are rumours that medical supplies as well as mutant horrors can still be found inside.
1,<p>This ancient manufacturing city covers several square miles. The sounds of machinery echo from some of the larger buildings.

1,The [1d6x10] **morlocks** ([morlock stats]) living in these caves have no access to the deeper levels. All they seek is shelter from the elements and a defensible home. At night, they emerge from the underground to do their hunting and gathering. [morlock witch]<p>[morlock trouble]

It’s a terribly unjust society and if you spend any amount of time in the labs, or if you manage to catch one of them on their material gathering expeditions, they’ll beg for your help. [“Please, free us from these eugenitocracy!”|“Help us topple the genetic purists!”]
1,The vat people are served by [6d6] **plantoids** ([plantoid stats]). They are mobile, mute, appear to be totally subservient. If you can communicate with them telepathically, however, you’ll soon discover that they often squirrel away nutrients and have an entire *hidden* community of [3d6x10] mobile plantoids living in the canals and sewers below the lab. 1,The vat banks have not been sterilized in a lunar cycle because of a nesting dirt devil (TODO). If the dirt devil can be killed or captured, the eggs can be harvested and the vats re-sterilised.
1,The entrances to the vat people’s caves have been blocked due to the annual migration of the incredibly aggressive cactoids ([cactoid stats]). If we could lure the cactoids away with their favourite food ([food]), the vat people would reward us with free healing and DNA splicing.
1,The vat people’s long time enemies, the nuclear wizards led by *[nearby nuclear wizard]*, have raided and stolen data integral to the body bank’s manufacturing process. “With the help of our mobile AI station, we could hack into their matrix, reroute the subroutines, and steal back the code! All we need is to get close to them. Will you escort us?”
1,The vat people’s body banks have gone haywire, and are generating body parts with too many unsuitable mutations. “Only the [knowledge|wisdom|library] of *[nearby atom gazer]* can help us reprogram the AI loop. Will you [go and fetch them|escort one of us]?”
1,*[same scientist]* is missing a book for their current research: *[nearby book [1|2]]*. “Will you borrow this book for me? You might have to [beg them|threaten them|steal it], I don’t care. Just get me the book.”

# Cave Dungeon

# Before calling [dungeon] you need to save [store vat as monsters],
# for example. This makes sure the “vat” subtables are used for
# monsters. Alternatively, if instead you have an appropriate table,
# use [save cave theme as monsters] to pick an entry from the “cave
# theme” table. If you’re looking for an example, search the file for
# “#VAT”.

1,Resting in this area is dangerous, for you’re sure to attract the attention of a pack of [[2d6]] **eye stalkers** ([eye stalker stats]).
1,There’s a rocky outcrop in the area, providing an excellent view of the surrounding area from above the tree cover.
